Boynton Beach is a city in Palm Beach County in the state of Florida. It is located on the Atlantic coastline about 15 miles south of West Palm Beach, 32 miles north of Fort Lauderdale, and 63 miles north of Miami. Boynton Beach is also a principal city of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Former American Civil War major Nathan S. Boynton first saw the area that now bears his name in 1894. He was so taken by the scenic beauty and year round warm weather that he built the famous Boynton Beach Hotel as his family's summer residence. Workers and their accompanying families from Michigan moved to the area in 1895 to construct the hotel and consequently went on to build a small town. Farmers raised vegetables to meet the hotels needs and shipped pineapples, tomatoes and other cash crops northward. Boynton Beach was incorporated in 1920 as the Town of Boynton and then became "Boynton Beach" in 1941.

Today Boynton Beach prospers from its fertile land and rich agricultural output. Its economy is supplemented with a thriving tourist industry based on its attractive beaches. Boynton Beach is known as "The Gateway to the Gulf Stream" and presents residents and visitors with easy access to a wide variety of entertainment and recreational activities.

The Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge offers many recreational opportunities, including walking trails, a canoe trail, biking, boating, and fishing, and also features a butterfly garden, observation towers, and a visitor center. The Refuge is home to the American alligator and the critically endangered Everglade snail kite. Visitors can move through most of the 221 square mile reserve and view as many as 257 species of birds using the wetland habitats.
