Bradenton is a city in and the county seat of Manatee County in the state of Florida. It is located on the Gulf Coast 11 miles north of Sarasota and 31 miles south of Tampa. Bradenton is also the largest Principal City of the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area and includes Palmetto and the barrier islands of Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island.

The current city of Bradenton was formed in 1943, when the Florida legislature merged the cities of Manatee and Bradentown. The name is derived from Dr. Joseph Braden, who offered refuge for early settlers during Seminole Indian attacks in his fort-like house.

Today Bradenton Beach sits on the southern end of Anna Maria Island attracting visitors who come to enjoy the year round sunshine and surrounding beaches. Waterways, both fresh and saltwater, envelop the city allowing residents and visitors a plethora of water based recreational activities. The shade from Australian pines line much of the 20 miles of Florida beaches along the Gulf of Mexico and into Tampa Bay.

Bradenton’s downtown area sits on the west side of the city and houses various offices and government buildings. The Village of The Arts is a unique neighbourhood just south of downtown where special zoning laws allow residents to live and work in their homes. About 50 once dilapidated houses have been remodelled into studios, galleries and small restaurants, mostly catering to the arts. The Village of the Arts prides itself as the largest arts district on the Gulf Coast.

Tropicana Products is one of the world's largest producers and marketers of orange juice. Although Tropicana's corporate headquarters were relocated to Chicago in 2003, their juice production still remains in Bradenton and employs a large number of residents. Bradenton is also home to the prominent sporting chain Champs Sports and the corporate offices of Beall's Department Stores.

Other attractions include the Bradenton's Riverfront Theatre, Gamble Mansion, Great Florida Birding Trail, Historic Old Main Street, Manatee Village Historical Park, South Florida Museum, Bishop Planetarium and Parker Manatee Aquarium, Art Center Manatee, Cortez Fishing Village and the Florida Heritage Festival.
