Margate is a city in Broward County in the state of Florida. It is located about 12 miles north-west of Fort Lauderdale and 40 miles north of Miami.

The city was named using a contraction of the name of its original founder, Jack Marquese, and the word gate, signifying its status as the "gateway" to western Broward County. Margate became a town in 1955 and was incorporated as a city in 1961.

Today Margate encompasses approximately 9.2 square miles and is home to nearly 105 acres of parks. The city promotes a healthy quality of life and supports excellent outdoor recreational facilities.

Calypso Cove is a water park in Margate featuring three pools facilitating every level of swimmer from the zero-depth beach-entry pool equipped with a play area and water spraying toys to a six-lane lap pool suitable for swimming lessons, family swimming and lifeguard training. Other facilities include both enclosed and open slides, picnic areas, three half-court basketball courts, and a fishing dock.

Celebrations, festivals and a series of year-round events entertain and enrich the Margate’s residents and visitors. These include the Free Concert Series "Sounds at Sundown," the Fourth of July Parade, the Margate Golf Classic and Winter Solstice Celebration.

Margate's close proximity to the several metropolitan areas provides easy access to a number of diverse attractions. These include The Fort Lauderdale Antique Car Museum, Butterfly World in Coconut Creek, Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach, Flamingo Gardens in Davie, and Hollywood's Anne Kolb Nature Center.
