North Miami is city in northeast Miami-Dade County in the state of Florida. It is located about 10 miles north of Miami on Biscayne Bay between Homestead and Fort Lauderdale.

The area now known as North Miami was originally settled in the late 19th century and named Arch Creek. This thriving farming community shifted its primary focus to land development in the Florida land boom of the 1920s. In 1926 it was incorporated as the Town of Miami Shores and then in 1931 as The Town of North Miami. In 1952 the town became the City of North Miami, the name which it has retained till this day.

The desirable subtropical climate of North Miami, coupled with miles of sandy beaches, attracts sun and water lovers from all over the state and country. The city offers eleven public parks, two swimming pools and three tennis courts. A popular spot for outdoor recreation is the 22 acre natural oak grove in the Enchanted Forest Elaine Gordon Park.

North Miami is home to the Biscayne Bay Campus of Florida International University and the North Miami campus of Johnson & Wales University. The city is also home to the largest urban park in Florida, Oleta River State Park. The park is spread across 993 acres of land and 50 acres of inland water and resides in the north-eastern end of the city on Biscayne Bay. The park contains one of the largest concentrations of Australian pine trees found in a Florida State Park.

The Joan Lehman Museum of contemporary Art is a 22,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility and one of the premier cultural sites in the city. The museum features two outdoor courtyards, high quality exhibitions, events, films, lectures, exhibition space, an art pavilion, and art excursions. Other Museums in the area include the Miami Children's Museum, Bass Museum and the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.

Miami area's numerous annual events and festivals include the African Thanksgiving Celebration Kwanza, Orange Bowl Classic, Miami Film Festival, Italian Renaissance Festival at Vizcaya, River Cities Festival, Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival, 4th of July at Bayfront Park, South Florida International Auto Show, Hispanic Heritage Festival, Miami Air Show and Miami Christmas Family Pageant.
