Spring Hill is a census-designated place in Hernando County in the state of Florida. It is located along Florida's western coastline only four miles from the Gulf of Mexico, 40 miles northwest of Tampa and 53 miles north of St. Petersburg. Spring Hill is in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area and included in Florida's Nature Coast.

Spring Hill was founded in 1968 as a planned community, developed by the Deltona Corporation and constructed by the Mackle Brothers. The original plans are identical to those of Deltona, Florida. Spring Hill today is a sprawling semi-city constantly attracting a large number of business chains and residents seeking lower property values, a quiet suburban life and a low crime rate. Big City amenities are located just 35km south at Tampa, via the Suncoast Parkway.

Spring Hill is home to many beautiful parks, cultural groups and performances, restaurants and retail stores. Golf courses are abundant and outdoor activities are prevalent with the Gulf of Mexico being so close. Outdoor recreation here includes hiking, canoeing, golf, biking and superb bass fishing in its lakes and rivers.

Spring hill is famed for its natural tourist attraction, the Weeki Wachee Preserve and springs. This 6,000 acre protected wildlife area lies between Spring Hill and its neighbouring community of Hernando Beach. The "Weeki Wachee City of Mermaids" is a daily held attraction featuring underwater mermaid shows, exotic bird shows, wilderness river cruises and a petting zoo. Florida's only spring-fed water park is next door at Buccaneer Bay and features waterslides, a tube ride, bumper boats, a children’s play area and a beach.

In 2007, the discharge level at Weeki Wachee spring dropped to a level that allowed for cave divers to gain effective entry into the cave system at the spring. The Karst Underwater Research team successfully explored about 6,700 feet in multiple passages with a maximum depth of 407 ffw, making the cave system under Weeki Wachee springs the deepest fresh water cave system in the United States.

Spring Hill is within reasonable driving distance of some of Florida's major attractions including Adventure Island, Busch Gardens, Lowry Park Zoological Gardens, Tampa Museum of Art, International Sport Aviation Museum, St. Petersburg Museum of History, Salvador Dali Museum, Walt Disney World, SeaWorld and Universal Studios Florida.
