Sunrise is a city in Broward County in the state of Florida. It is located about 12 miles west of Fort Lauderdale and 37 miles north of Miami on Florida’s eastern coast.

The city was originally named "Sunset" but changed by developers to “Sunrise” in 1961 to better attract retirees. It enjoyed steady growth through the 1970’s and expanded from its original two square mile footprint to its present size of more than 18 square miles. The 1980s saw major infrastructure improvements and the city began to establish itself as a center for corporate headquarters. 1998 saw the opening of the Bank Atlantic Center, a massive world class arena, which helped to establish the city as one of the leading municipalities in South Florida. Today the Centre is home to the Florida Panthers of the NHL and hosts more than 100 major entertainment events annually. Today Sunrise boasts a vibrant tourist industry and is home to over 100 corporations.

Seven Bridges at Springtree Golf Club is a 67-acre, par 61 executive course located just north of West Oakland Park Boulevard in Sunrise. The course first opened in 1972 but was completely remodelled in 2010. It features a 7,000-square-foot Clubhouse with spacious locker rooms, a modern pro shop, and a 120-seat dining area that overlooks the course's 18th green.

Sawgrass Mills Mall is famed as being one of the world's most popular outlet shopping mall destinations and Florida's largest retail center. The mall features almost 2 miles of shops, more than 400 name brand outlet stores including Off 5th-Saks Fifth Avenue Outlet, Neiman Marcus, Disney's Character Premiere, Kenneth Cole, Tommy Hilfiger Company Store, Mikasa Factory Store, Banana Republic Factory Store, Calvin Klein Outlet Store, Gap Outlet and Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store. The mall also includes casual dining options and is located 10 miles west of Fort Lauderdale and 30 minutes from Miami-Dade and Palm Beach.

Other attractions in and around the city include the Sunrise Symphonic Pops Orchestra, Woodstock Arts & Crafts Festival, the annual Fourth of July Celebration, The IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum in nearby Danea Beach, The Fort Lauderdale Antique Car Museum, Sportsplex at Coral Springs and the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Native American Museum in Plantation.
