Macon is city in Bibb County in the state of Georgia. It is located 85 miles south of Atlanta near the geographic center of Georgia, hence the city's nickname as the Heart of Georgia. It is part of the Macon metropolitan area and is also the biggest city in central Georgia.

Macon was founded at the site of Fort Benjamin Hawkins at the fall line of the Ocmulgee River to protect the new frontier and establish a trading post with Native Americans. The city was chartered as the county seat in 1823 and officially named after the North Carolina statesman Nathaniel Macon. The city has thrived through the years mostly due to its excellent location on the Ocmulgee River. Macon's early economy was cotton but diversified in 1843 when the railroad linked it into other towns. Macon prospered into the 20th century and has become a transportation hub for the entire state.

Macon today has an historic downtown containing antebellum homes and cathedrals including the Woodruff House, the Hay House, and the Cannonball House.

Over 275,000 Yoshino cherry trees decorate Macon and in springtime the city bursts into colour by hosting a 10 day Cherry Blossom Celebration. Parades, carnivals, crafts market, local art exhibitions, concerts, and other special events bring Central City Park to life resulting in Macon being known as the "Cherry Blossom Capital of the World." Other festivals held in the city include The Mulberry Street Festival, Pan African Festival, Ocmulgee Indian Celebration, The Georgia State Fair, Georgia Music Week, Bragg Jam festival, Macon Film Festival and First Fridays.

Macon is filled with attractions both scenic and cultural including the Heritage Trail along the Ocmulgee River, Ocmulgee Indian Mounds, The Hay House, Rose Hill Cemetery, The Museum of Arts and Sciences, Georgia Music Hall of Fame, Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and Tubman African-American Museum.
