Roswell is a city in northern Fulton County in the state of Georgia. It is an affluent suburb of Atlanta located 22 miles north of the capital in the northern part of the state.

The history of the city began when Roswell King saw the potential for a cotton plantations and a cotton mill along Vickery Creek. King built what became the largest mill in North Georgia and set up infrastructure, houses, mill worker apartments, and supporting buildings creating a new town. Roswell was incorporated as a city in 1854. By the time of the Civil War, the developed Roswell cotton mills employed more than 400 people. As the mills increased in production, so did the number of people living in the area. Today Roswell is one of Georgia’s largest cities with a continuous increase in population.

The Roswell Recreation and Parks department maintains 18 parks covering over 800 acres of natural beauty. Many beautiful walking trails wind through native trees, past waterfalls and over beautifully preserved pedestrian bridges. Old Mill Park is a popular recreational area and links to the Vickery Creek Covered Pedestrian Bridge. A 7-mile park lines the Chattahoochee River winding through Roswell and supplying public playgrounds, picnic areas, boat ramps, wide open spaces and fishing opportunities. Numerous trails allow residents and visitors to enjoy the history and natural beauty for which Roswell is known.

Roswell is home to several annual festivals and events including Roswell Memorial Day Ceremony, Roswell Roots Festival, Roswell Criterium Bicycle Race, Roswell Magnolia Storytelling Festival, Riverside Sounds Concert Series, Roswell Youth Day Parade and Festival, Keep Roswell Beautiful Duck Race and Roswell Annual Fireworks Extravaganza.
