Savannah is a city in and the county seat of Chatham County, in the state of Georgia. It is located on the most eastern tip of the state next to the South Carolina border.

General James Oglethorpe and his settlers landed at Yamacraw Bluff, Georgia in 1733 and the city of Savannah was founded. The city named was taken from the Savannah River and in 1751 it was made the colonial capital of Georgia. The production of Silk and indigo were early export commodities, essential to Savannah's economy during its first two centuries. Cotton was the dominant product after the American Revolution aiding in the Port of Savannah becoming one of the most active ports in the country. Savannah's port remains a mainstay of the city's economy, allowing residents exposure to some of the world's finest goods.

The city is an industrial center and an important Atlantic seaport with a downtown area being one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States.
