Kapaa is a census-designated place in Kauai County, on the island of Kauai, in the American state of Hawaii.

The State of Hawaii is made up hundreds of islands spread over 1,500 miles and is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It is a popular tourist's playground that provides everything a visitor could desire from laying in the sun all day to shopping, and from water based sports to exploring the vast array of unique flora and fauna.

The tropical island paradise of Kauai is only about 20 minutes by air from Honolulu and is the oldest and northernmost of the main Hawaiian Islands. The Island is uniquely divided into 5 pie slice shaped regions and is covered with lush tropical vegetation. Activities that are popular throughout the scenic sanctuary include scuba diving, windsurfing, fishing, golfing, horseback riding and hiking the Kukui, Kuilau Ridge and Kalalau trails.

Kapaa is named directly from the Hawaiian word meaning solid and began as an agriculture centre, mostly growing sugar cane and pineapples. Today the town sits in the ancient district of Puna, and has a large concentration of hotels, shopping centres, and tourist-oriented shops and restaurants.

The town is overlooked by the famous "Sleeping Giant" or Nounou Mountain. This natural formation is named for its resemblance to a reclining human figure, and reflects an ancient Hawaiian legend about a giant who, after great labour or overeating, lay to rest and is yet to awaken.

Attractions in and around Kapaa also include Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Park, Poipu Beach, whale and bird watching.
