Lahaina is a census-designated place in Maui County, on the Island of Maui, in the American state of Hawaii. It is located on the west coast and is the gateway to the famous Kaanapali and Kapalua beach resorts.

The State of Hawaii is made up of hundreds of islands spread over 1,500 miles and is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It is a popular tourist's playground that provides everything a visitor could desire from laying in the sun all day to shopping, and from water based sports to exploring the vast array of unique flora and fauna.

In the 19th century, Lahaina was the center of the global whaling industry with many sailing ships anchored in at its waterfront. Today the ships have been replaced by a score of pleasure craft. Activity in Lahaina is focused along Front Street, which dates back to the 1820s. Front Street offers a wide variety of food and entertainment and is the centre of night life for West Maui. The Street is lined with stores and restaurants and tourists are draw toward the massive banyan tree which fills Banyan Tree Square. The tree was planted in 1873 by William Owen Smith to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the arrival of Christian missionaries.

Lahaina hosts many events and celebrations each year. It is the final destination of the Vic-Maui Yacht Race, which begins in Victoria, BC, Canada and ends in Hawaiian style with much revelry in Lahaina. The Plantation Course at Kapalua hosts the PGA Tour's SBS Championship every January and each November Lahaina hosts the Maui Invitational, one of the top early-season tournaments in college basketball. Lahaina is known above all of these for the celebrations on Halloween. This signature event has historically drawn crowds between 20,000 and 30,000. The town virtually closes down for the hundreds of Children in costumes that form the Keiki Parade. Darkness brings adults in costumes and Front Street transforms to one big party, renamed by locals as the "Mardi Gras of the Pacific".

Historical attractions include the historical Pioneer Inn, The Baldwin House and the remains of an 1831 Defence Fort.
