Lihue is a census-designated place and the county seat of Kauai County, on the Island of Kauai, in the American state of Hawaii. It is located on the south-eastern coast of the island in the land division of Kalapaki.

Lihue is the second largest town on the island and gets its name directly from the Hawaiian word for "cold chill." The booming sugar industry lifted Lihue to become the central city of the island in the 1800s. William Harrison Rice built the first irrigation system in 1856 and Paul Isenberg helped German people emigrate to Lihue starting in 1881. Today the plantation grows crops and livestock and is a popular tourist attraction. A narrow tourist railroad with vintage diesel locomotives and horse-drawn carriages offers tours of the plantation and Luaus are regularly held on site.

Other attractions in the area include offshore fishing and site seeing excursions through NCL America, the Kauai Museum and Kukui Grove Shopping Center, which houses Macy's, Sears, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Costco.
