Idaho Falls is a city in and the county seat of Bonneville County in the state of Idaho. It is located 27 miles north of Blackfoot on the eastern edge of the state. The city is the principal city of the Idaho Falls, Idaho Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Idaho Falls-Blackfoot, Idaho Combined Statistical Area.

The land now known as Idaho Falls was the original site of the 1865 Taylor’s Crossing, a toll bridge that was built by Montana Trail freighter, Matt Taylor. The bridge was constructed to service settlers moving north and west and for miners, freighters, and others seeking riches in the gold fields of Idaho and Montana. The small settlement changed its name to Idaho Falls in 1891, taking the name from the rapids below the bridge.

The Great Feeder was built in 1895 to divert water from Snake River to tens of thousands of acres of surrounding desert. At the time of construction this was the largest irrigation canal in the world and was the catalyst in making the farmlands of Idaho Falls one of the most productive regions in the United States. Today Snake River runs through the center of the city creating an extensive greenbelt and picturesque environment.

Tourists are attracted to Idaho Falls by the world-class fishing on the Snake River, Idaho National Laboratory and the city’s close proximity to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Tautphaus Park Zoo is home to the largest collection of animals in Idaho. The Zoo houses over 400 animals including African Penguins, wallabies, gibbons and an array of South American birds. The Children's Zoo allows children interactive learning through petting and feeding of domesticated animals.
