Nampa is a city in Canyon County in the state of Idaho. It is located about 20 miles west of Boise along Interstate 84, and six miles west of Meridian in the south-western part of the state. Nampa is also part of the Boise metropolitan area.

The area now known as Nampa sprung to life in the early 1880s when the Oregon Short Line Railroad built a line from Granger, Wyoming, to Huntington, Oregon. The importance of Nampa as a railroad town increased as the number of lines and their destinations increased. The Nampa Land and Improvement Company was formed by some of the area’s first permanent settlers, James McGee and Alexander and Hannah Duffes. The city was named after a Shoshone word whose meaning is either moccasin or footprint.

Nampa is an incredibly fast growing city with an ever changing face due to the constant building of new homes, new shopping centres and new roads. In 1965, the first indoor shopping mall in Treasure Valley opened and was named Karcher Mall. Today the mall is anchored by the Burlington Coat Factory, Discount Furniture, Jo-Ann Fabrics, Macy's Clearance Center, and Ross Dress for Less. In 1988 the Boise Towne Square Mall opened and today has over 186 stores including Macy's, JCPenney, Sears, Kohl's and Dillard's. The mall also includes the first Apple Store in the state of Idaho. Other retail hot spots include the Treasure Valley Marketplace and the Nampa Gateway Center.

Lake Ethel is an irrigation reservoir in Nampa which is been favoured for many years for community picnics, fishing, and swimming and boating. The Lakeview Park is arguably one of the area’s oldest and most scenic parks. It covers more than 44 acres and includes large picnicking shelters, mature trees and a beautiful rose garden and amphitheatre that are popular for weddings. Lakeview Waterpark features a zero depth entry beach for small children, spraying toys, water slide and lazy island.
