Aurora is a suburb of Chicago in the state of Illinois. It is located about 53 miles west of Chicago’s downtown on the Fox River.

Aurora originally consisted of two villages, one on each side of the river, which were both based around Mills. The east side of the river was founded by the McCarty brothers and the west side was founded by the Lake brothers. In 1857 the two sides joined and became officially incorporated. Aurora was originally founded within Kane County however significant expansion during the past 50 years has caused it to extend into DuPage, Will and Kendall Counties. In 1881 the city became one of the first cities in the United States to implement an all-electric street lighting system. In 1908 it officially adopted the nickname "City of Lights". Today Aurora sits on the very edge of the area known as Chicagoland and offers recreational opportunities in both urban and rural setting.

Aurora is the second most populous city in Illinois and is home to a noteworthy collection of architectural structures including designs by Frank Lloyd Wright, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Bruce Goff and George Grant Elmslie

One of the more popular tourist attractions in Aurora is The Hollywood Casino which sits on the river’s edge in downtown. The Casino boasts a gaming facility of 53,000 square feet with 1,200 gaming positions and displays original movie memorabilia.

Other attractions in the area include the Aurora Historical Society, Aurora Regional Fire Museum, The Aurora Public Arts Commission, Phillips Park Zoo, David L. Pierce Art and History Centre, SciTech Interactive Science Museum, the Schingoethe Museum of Native American Culture, Glen D. Palmer Dam White-water Park, The Old Barn Museum, Phillips Park Sunken Garden, Raging Waves Waterpark and the Sandwich Fairgrounds.
