Joliet is a city in the Chicagoland region of Illinois. It is the largest city and county seat of Will County and is located about 45 miles south-west of Chicago in the north-eastern part of the state.

Joliet was first planned in the early 1830s as part of Cook County; however Charles Reed built a cabin along the west side of the Des Plaines River in 1833 and laid out the village using the name local settlers had previously been using, "Juliet". In 1836, it became the county seat of the new Will County. In 1845, local residents changed the community's name from "Juliet" to "Joliet" and in 1852 it was reincorporated as a city.

Joliet is a blue collar city that has grown into a popular tourist spot and residence for many Chicago commuters. The city is most known for hosting the NASCAR races each summer. Chicagoland Speedway hosts the LifeLock.com 400, a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, and the Dollar General 300, a NASCAR Nationwide Series race. The Indy Racing Northern Lights race and an ARCA Re/Max Series race also are based here every September.

Two riverboat casinos are located on the canal which bisects the city. Argosy's Empress Casino & Hotel covers 50,000 square feet and over 1,183 slots and 28 table games. The Harrah's Joliet Casino & Hotel also offers the slots, table games and restaurants and is located along the Des Plains River.

Joliet caters to every kind of shopper with fine specialty and major retail stores including Downtown Joliet, the Louis Joliet Shopping District, Westfield Louis Joliet Shopping Mall, Essington Road Region and the Jefferson Street, Larkin Avenue and Collins Street Areas. There are several miles of bike trails which wind through Joliet.
