Mount Prospect is a village in Elk Grove and Wheeling Townships in Cook County, in the state of Illinois. It is located about 22 miles northwest of downtown Chicago in the north-eastern part of the state.

In 1850 Mount Prospect was linked into the main railway. This created a need for a train station and subsequently workers stores and housing. With ready access to the area the settlement grew quickly and developed into the village we see today. In 1917, Mount Prospect gained official incorporation with a population of 300. The suburban movements that followed World War II combined with the baby boom expanded the population once more and in 1962 Mount Prospect made its name known by building Randhurst, the first indoor air-conditioned mall in the upper Midwest. The Kensington Business Centre drew a variety of businesses into the town serving as home to several major national and international firms including NTN Bearing, Searle, Braun Manufacturing Cummins-Allison Corp., ITT Technical Institute and Sayers Computing.

Today Mount Prospect is a thriving mini metropolitan, filled with all the services and opportunities of a bigger city, decorated with carefully placed flowers and living with an old fashioned slogan "Where Friendliness is a Way of Life.” Tourists and residents benefit from direct access to many of the educational, recreational and cultural facilities in the surrounding Chicagoland.
