Carmel is a city in Hamilton County in the state of Indiana. It is located immediately north of the capital city Indianapolis in the central part of the state.

The area now known as Carmel was originally a small settlement named Bethlehem. The first plot established remains today at the intersection of Rangeline Road and Main Street and is marked by a clock tower. The settlement was incorporated as Carmel City in 1874.

Today Carmel is one of Indiana’s fastest growing cities and the unofficial roundabout capital of USA. More than 80 roundabouts have been installed and almost as many traffic signals have been removed. The roundabouts are seen as a more cost effective solution and safer for residents and the community.

The Centre for Performing Arts is a recently completed construction of Carmel Monon Community Centre as well as $118 million concert hall. The centre consists of a 1,600 seat concert hall named The Palladium, a 500-seat theatre named The Tarkington and a 200-seat black box theatre. Performances are held year round and include singers, orchestras, comedians, actors and dancers.

Carmel's Central Park opened in 2007 and provides residents a mega-fitness centre with quality modern recreational facilities. The Outdoor Water Park sits in the middle of Central Park and consists of two water slides, a drop slide, a diving board, a lazy river, a kiddie pool, a large zero depth activity pool, and a lap pool. A modern fitness centre offers its own indoor lap pool, recreation pool, gymnasium, indoor running track and Kids Zone childcare. An elevated walkway connects the centre to the Carmel Clay Parks Department offices, banquet centre and activity rooms. The Monon Trail runs from downtown Indianapolis through Broad Ripple and into Carmel providing excellent trails for both walkers and cyclists.
