Gary is a city in Lake County in the state of Indiana. It is located on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan and on three major Interstates in the north-eastern part of the state. Gary is included in the Chicago metropolitan area and is just 25 miles from downtown Chicago.

Gary was founded by the United States Steel Corporation in 1906 taking the name of lawyer and founding chairman of U.S. Steel, Elbert H. Gary. A new Steel Mill and nationwide growth of the steel industry brought prosperity to the community. Gary devoloped as a commercial centre for the region building department stores, housing, entertainment facilities and parks. As the Steel trade waxed and waned through America, so did the population and economy of Gary.

Today the city attracts weekend vacationers with its beautiful beaches, exciting nightlife and several architecturally designed structures including some designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, a 6,000-seat minor league baseball stadium, Union Station and the City Methodist Church. The Lake Street Shopping District is filled with boutiques and galleries and two casinos are situated along the lakeshore. Chicago’s attractions are all conveniently a short drive away.
