Jeffersonville is a city in and the county seat of Clark County in the state of Indiana. It is located along the Ohio River directly north across from Louisville, Kentucky on the southern edge of the state.

Fort Finney was constructed in 1786 to protect the area from Indians, and a settlement grew around the fort. The fort was renamed Fort Steuben in honour of Baron von Steuben in 1791 until its abandonment two years later. Jeffersonville was named and made the Clark County seat reportedly in 1802 after President Thomas Jefferson took office. The city was laid out in a grid pattern and experienced rapid growth due to Indiana's second federal land sale office being established in Jeffersonville. The end of the War of 1812 spurred growth further and in 1878 Jeffersonville reclaimed the County seat once more after having passed it over to Springville and then Charlestown.

Today the city, often referred to as “Jeff”, has a successful economy increasing with diversity through manufacturing, statistical processing, trucking and distribution, steel fabrication and electronic componentry. Ship Building remains a major part of the city’s livelihood and this is echoed through architecture, business and residential way of life. The city reflects its deep history and love of shipbuilding at the Howard Steamboat Museum. The developing river front area makes the most of on Jeffersonville's historic commercial architecture and the scenic beauty of the Ohio River.

The annual “A Taste of Jeffersonville” raises money for community projects ranging from public art and community projects. In 2010, the festival helped raise funds to provide the Clark County Museum with reproductions of historic photos that were salvaged from the old Frank's Steakhouse on West Seventh Street. Other festivals held in Jeffersonville include the Celebrating Freedom Parade, Clark County Framers markets, Concerts in the Park, Halloween Downtown and River stage, Jefferson Family Festival, Light up the holidays Parade, River Breeze Wine Festival and Thunder over Louisville.
