Marion is a city in and the county seat of Grant County in the state of Indiana. It is located about 85miles north of Indianapolis and about 60 miles south-west of Fort Wayne in the central northern part of the state.

Martin Boots and David Branson each donated 30 acres of land on the left bank of the Wabash River in 1831 for the development of Marion. The area had previously been named "Mississinewa" by local Indians, meaning "laughing waters." The annual "Battle of the Mississinewa 1812" festival is the largest War of 1812 re-enactment in the United States. It is held every fall by a combination of Grant County residents and enthusiasts from throughout the United States and Canada. The act aims to relive and remember the horrific pre-dawn encounter between U.S. Troops and Indians.

The settlement was named for the Revolutionary War General Francis Marion, along with at least 36 other communities in the country and was established as the county seat in 1831. Marion grew slowly as an agricultural trading centre until Gas Boom of the 1880s. The population increased by several thousand before the gas failed and the majority of gas related industries moved on. Grant County's only covered bridge remains today as a symbolic link to the past.

Today Marion is a thriving community proud of its amenities and opportunities. It is home to the seven-time state basketball champions, Marion Giants and the 7,500 seat Bill Green Athletic Arena. The Marion High School campus is one of the more notable architectural landmarks in Marion. The Marion Philharmonic Orchestra, the Marion Civic Theatre, and the Mississinewa Valley Community Band entertain from the schools impressive 1,468 seat community auditorium.
