Muncie is a city in Centre Township, Delaware County in the state of Indiana. It is located 58 miles north-east of Indianapolis and 33 miles west of Union City on the Indiana/Ohio border. It is also the principal city of the Muncie, Indiana, Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The area now known as Muncie was originally founded along the White River by the Delaware Indians in the 1770s. In 1818, the tribes were forced to cede their land to the federal government and two years later the area was opened to white settlers. Munsee Town was the name given to the original Indian Village by the white settlers and refers to a member of the Delaware tribe. The city of Muncie was incorporated in 1865.

The economy of Muncie has sat heavily in industrial manufacturing since the late 19th century, due mainly to the Indiana Gas Boom. Today the city is seen more as a college town and is probably best known nationally as the home of Ball State University and the birthplace of the Ball Corporation. The city has gained notoriety through on-going success in prep sports. Muncie Central High School has excelled with their boys basketball team for over 100 years. The Walnut St. Fieldhouse has been home to the Muncie Central High School "Bearcats" since 1928 with its 6,000 seat facility ranks in the top 20 largest high school gymnasiums in the world. Burris Laboratory School is also nationally noted for its elite volleyball program.

The Academy of Model Aeronautics aims to promote model aviation as a recognized sport and recreation activity. The largest collection of model aircraft in the United States is on display at the AMA National Model Aviation Museums & Flying Site located on East Memorial Drive in Muncie. Other attractions in and around the city include the Ball State University, Cardinal Greenway, Minnetrista Museum and Cultural Centre, Muncie Children's Museum and the Muncie Sportsplex.

Events during the year include the Home Show at the Horizon Convention Centre in Downtown Muncie. The Home Show features exhibitors and experts, demonstrations, and children’s activities. St. Patrick's Day is celebrated with a colourful Parade each March to be outdone by the biggest party of the year, the Muncie Gras. The Streets come to life with music, mechanical bull rides, calf roping, go-go cage, bars, dance party tents, outdoor stages, belly dancers and aerial acts.
