Terre Haute is a city in and the county seat of Vigo County in the state of Indiana. It is located about 77 miles south-west of Indianapolis near the state's western border. Terre Haute is also the self-proclaimed capital of the Wabash Valley.

The city was named by French explorers in the early 18th century. It is derived from the phrase meaning “high ground” and describes the unique location in the Wabash Valley. Today Downtown Terre Haute is thriving with re-development energy, the construction of new hotels, businesses and outdoor events and festivals held nearly every weekend during the summer months. Terre Haute is known for being home to the original curved Coca-Cola bottle design first produced by the Root Glass Company. It was one of the primary test markets for Pringles Potato Chips and today houses the largest disc production facility in the United States, Sony DADC.

There are numerous modern educational and cultural attractions to be found in the city. Inland Aquatics displays over 40,000 gallons of living coral reef, saltwater fish and coral hatchery. The facility is dedicated to the propagation, rearing, and holding of a variety of marine plants and animals. The city has several beautifully maintained parks. Collett Park is the oldest park and features a horseshoe court, picnic shelters, enclosed pavilion, playground, and tennis courts. Other parks include Deming Park, Dobbs Park Nature Centre , Fairbanks Park and Hawthorn Park.
