West Lafayette is a city in Tippecanoe County in the state of Indiana. It is located about 65 miles northwest of Indianapolis and across the Wabash River from its sister city, Lafayette. Together the sister cities form the core of the Lafayette, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area.

West Lafayette was officially formed in 1888, when the growth of the Purdue University demanded separation from Lafayette and the need for its own infrastructure and services. By the 1940s West Lafayette had emerged as an independent, suburban city with stand-alone services and unique neighbourhoods.

Purdue Research Park was established in 1961, covers 725 acres and is home to more than 140 companies. This concentration of technology related companies offers the city communications infrastructure, research facilities, and one of the largest university-affiliated research parks in the United States.

Today the Purdue University plays a major financial role in the community, employing the largest portion of the sister cities workforce. The quality of life is rated highly, assisted by family festivals, quality day and health care, fine dining, a variety of sporting events and the strong values of a mid-west community. Across the river Lafayette hosts a re-creation of an 18th Century French and Indian trading post on the banks of the Wabash River called the Feast of the Hunter’s Moon. The celebrations are adorned with Eighteenth century music, crafts, dance and recreated period foods
