Laramie was settled in the mid-19th century along the Union Pacific Railroad line which crosses the Laramie River, the ruins of Fort Sanders which is an old army fort that predates Laramie lies just south of the city and is part of the colourful history of the region. Laramie was founded in 1865 as a tent city and it wasn't until 10th May 1868 when the first train entered town and entrepreneurs were building more permanent structures, from this growth Laramie soon had stores, houses, a school, and churches.
Thanks to the magic of the movies, television and books the name “Laramie, Wyoming” conjures up visions of the Old West and if you visit the old Fort Sanders you will be able to look back at a simpler time that owed it’s very existence to fur traders and emigrants that braved the western frontier. Take the time to stop in and explore the great outdoors, you can come and relax here with as much or as little to do as you'd like.
