Riverton is both the largest city in the county and the largest within the historical boundaries of the Wind River Indian Reservation, the city is an incorporated entity of the state of Wyoming. In 1904 representatives of the U.S. government met with the local tribes of the region to discuss the cession of "surplus" reservation lands north of the Wind River, an agreement was made and signed and as a result was made available to settlers in 1906. This resulted in the settlement of farming areas near the big bend of Wind River and the establishment of the town of Riverton.

Riverton is the hub city of Central Wyoming and is a common stop over for visitors/ travellers to Jackson Hole and Yellowstone and with it's beautiful location tucked in between Owl Creek and the Wind River Mountains, it's a perfect place to stop.
